23andMe downloaded via DNAGedcom Client

While the DNAGedcom Client can download data from 23andMe, it does take a extended amount of time, and for some people this means days for a single kit.

Downloading match and chromosome data direct from 23andMe, and using 529Renew to obtain targeted ICW / Triangulation information, is much faster.

For those who still wish to use the DNAGedcom Client to download 23andMe, the following template information has been supplied to enable you to create your own import templates. If a data item is not mentioned, it can be safely left blank.

There is no need to create a new source for these, as the existing source of 23andMe can be used.

Geneanet has a service which allows you to upload the raw data of a DNA test kit taken with any company, to compare it to other Geneanet members’ DNA data, and to find members with whom you share DNA segments. More information can be found on their FAQ at https://en.geneanet.org/dna/help/

If you choose to load your DNA data to Geneanet, below is a User Designed import template that may be able to assist you to import your Geneanet match data into GDAT.

Before starting however, you will need to create a custom source as explained on the Source Settings page.

You will then need to add your unique match key to your profile as explained on the Profile Keys page.

To find your Geneanet Profile Key, go to your "View DNA Matches" page, and copy all characters After the last / slash.

This key is 30 characters long, typically contains letters and numbers and takes the format of xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

One word of note: When a person uploads either their own DNA or that or a family member, there is an extra step that can be missed by many regarding the name of the kit. If the match manager has not taken this extra step, your resulting match list in GDAT can be filled with matches all named "Private name".

If you have loaded your DNA to Geneanet, you can fix this for others by going to your "Manage DNA Data page" and then selecting "Edit Information" for each DNA Data file. Then, select "Edit the Public Name" and select the appropriate option for your kit/s.
(I don't know how to make individual's visible in a family tree yet, but I can at least guide you making appropriate kit names known to others.)

Over time, more example templates may be included here.
